Conservatories & Orangeries

With there being so many businesses trying hard to sell you a conservatory not everyone gets what they want.

In fact some people get buildings they didn't bargain for!

Contrary to belief conservatories do not have to be south facing and in fact go well either on the east of a

house, to get the wonderful morning sunlight through till mid-afternoon, or on the west where you get the

evening light. Carefully designed they can be used all year round and you could be in danger of an existing

room in the house being made redundant!

The original buildings were made of cast iron by companies such as Messengers or Boulton & Paul (the latter

well known now for timber windows and doors), but over the last 15 years uPVC has really made its place in

window replacement market and slowly that has filtered through to the conservatory market with often

prices being nearly half that of traditional timber buildings but this material does limit the designs you can have.

If you are looking to build a bespoke conservatory then timber and glass are really the materials to be used.

With these you are only limited to the skills of the designer and the joiner in producing a truly elegant building

whether just simple lines or quite majestic - see my gallery.

Orangeries can either be traditional stone buildings with inset glass roofs or the modern approach allows

them to be made entierly of timber which gives a much slimmer appearance. Either way these buildings have

inset, low pitched roofs set behind a decorative cornice.

I purely specialise in timber and glass with experience spanning back to 1983 when I started work with a local

company who were to become the most exclusive and most expensive manufacturers of timber and glass

buildings anywhere in the world. Most of the work was on historic Listed Buildings where detail was paramount.

Over the years I have used those skills learned from that company to be able to offer a unique service to the customer.

organise to purely have the joinery made and installed leaving you to organise builders etc.
